SHORT CLUB HISTORY STORY

In the summer of 1997 two youth coaches had the idea that soccer had to be played at a much higher level in the Pioneer area. The AAYS was great for recreation but it would not train serious soccer players for the future.  Pioneer plays in a district that features teams such as Amherst, Williamsville, Grand Island, Lakeshore and other solid programs.  ALL of these districts have solid club programs that get there players playing at a much higher level MUCH earlier.  So with a group of about 6 girls we decided to incorporate and form a club.  We than asked the Buffalo District to accept our club.  Much of the legal work was done by Doug Lafay and the fees were paid with the help of local merchants and fundraising.

The whole off season we looked for players, the group of 6 were taken to tournaments by Bonnie Colley and we picked up players throughout the winter.  Bonnie taught them 6 players solid techniques, and by the time spring came we were able to field a competitive team.  The following years we have had teams in age groups ranging from U-12 through U-19.  Most our teams have been very competitive (around .500) and our U-19 team (coached By Michael Huntz) won the division in 2002. Our U-17 team won the division in 2004 and in 2006 our U-17 team (coached by Carl Heterbring) finished 2nd at the Niagara Pioneer International tournament at Ft. Niagara.

I hope this has made our players more skilled.  Soccer is played at such a higher level in college and high school today than it was 15 years ago.  We must offer our players the highest level of play to help insure future success.
